Updated Email from GYM QLD – COVID 8 Aug Lockdown update

Good afternoon everyone,

I just wanted to make you all aware that Gymnastics Queensland has been in contact with Queensland Health following confirmation that dance schools have been given permission to recommence classes upon the end of the lockdown. The guidance from Queensland Health was that based on the information they have, dance schools have been named as one of the types of venues that are able to open alongside gyms, health clubs, etc. Although I explained the similarities between these venues and our clubs, including that some clubs operate in the same facility as a dance school, they advised that, at present, gymnastics is recognised as coming under the umbrella of community sport and therefore isn’t permitted to recommence.

They did appreciate the case we put forward and have said that they will seek further clarification on this. We are also asking if certain programs, such as Kindergym/under 5’s gymnastics, may be considered exempt due to their educational/development purpose and merits rather than being considered sport.

As before, we are doing all that we can to obtain clarification on what gymnastics clubs will be permitted to do and what support will be made available to them. Until that time, the advice we have is that classes are unable to recommence within the 11 LGAs. As soon we know more, we will update everyone.

Kind regards,

Steven
